Deciding to exercise is the first step to fitness Starting and maintaining your momentum is the second and most crucial step. Unfortunately, taking the second step is often the part most people face problems with. Exercising requires time, dedication, and some getting used to. Not to mention, working out causes soreness, excessive sweating, and can even lead to injuries (if done incorrectly).

However, once you find your groove and the right support to guide and keep you on track, you will be able to stick to your fitness routine and even push yourself to try new exercises. To help you get to this stage, the fitness experts at The Basement Fitness have listed five tips to start getting fit. Keep reading to know what they are.

Tip #1: Sign up for a class
When you sign up for an exercise class, you commit to getting started. If there are many people in the class, you can make new friends and motivate each other to stick through the whole exercise program.

Tip #2: Try a boot camp
If you’ve already tried different fitness classes and haven’t succeeded with them, join a boot camp with a personal trainer to push you to test your limits, and simultaneously motivate you. Bootcamps are usually more upbeat and personalized, which makes them a great alternative to fitness classes.

Tip #3: Get a personal trainer
By trying a few sessions with a personal trainer, you can build your confidence in your ability to exercise. Also, under the guidance of a personal trainer, you can make sure you learn the correct postures to get the best results out of a workout and avoid injuries.

Tip #4: Set realistic goals
Another way to motivate yourself to exercise regularly is to set realistic goals for yourself. If you want to lose weight, start with small targets. Similarly, if you want to be able to lift heavier weights, you’ll need to start small to build your strength and muscles to lift heavier weights.

Tip #5: Challenge a friend
Challenge a friend to stay fit with you. A little bit of friendly competition will help push you to test your strength and keep going. You can challenge a close friend, relative, or even a colleague to exercise with you at a gym or at home.
